Logic Board Repair in Charleston, SC
Your MacBook won’t turn on, won’t charge, or the screen stays black? That’s almost always a fault on the logic board — and it can usually be repaired at the component level for a fraction of the cost of a new board.
What is board-level repair?
A logic board (motherboard) holds thousands of tiny components: power controllers, capacitors, charging chips, the CPU, memory and storage. When a MacBook stops powering on, it’s rarely the whole board that’s bad. More often a single capacitor has shorted, a power rail has failed, or liquid has corroded part of a circuit.
Apple and most repair shops don’t fix boards — they replace them, which is expensive and wipes your data. FixedMac works at the component level: I measure the circuits, find the exact failed part using schematics, a bench power supply, freeze spray and a stereo microscope, and replace just that part.
Common symptoms I fix
- No power — nothing happens when you press the power button
- Not charging — charger light stays off, or the battery never fills
- No display / no backlight — it sounds like it’s on but the screen is black or very dim
- Boot loops & restarts — shuts off, restarts or gets stuck on the logo
- Liquid damage — spills, corrosion and shorts (more on liquid damage)
- USB-C / MagSafe port faults — ports dead or the charger doesn’t connect
- Overheating & fans at full speed — often a failed sensor or power circuit
Devices I repair
MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (Intel, T2 and Apple Silicon M-series), iPhones, iPads, select Windows laptops, game console boards and graphics cards. Not sure if yours is covered? Send me the model number — on a MacBook it’s the “A” number on the bottom case, like A2337.
Repair keeps your data
On modern MacBooks the storage is soldered to the logic board. Replacing the board means your files are gone for good. Repairing the original board means everything is still there when you get it back. If all you need is your data, see data recovery.
Logic board repair FAQ
How much does logic board repair cost?
Logic board repair starts at $120. The final price depends on the model and fault, and you'll get an exact quote after the free diagnosis, before any work is done.
Is it worth repairing my logic board instead of replacing it?
Usually. A replacement board often costs $500 to $1,000+ and wipes your data. A component-level repair fixes only the part that failed, costs much less, and keeps your original storage and files.
What models do you repair?
MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (Intel and Apple Silicon), iPhones, iPads and select Windows laptops. Send me your model number (for example A2337) and I'll let you know.
Did Apple say it can't be fixed?
Apple and most shops don't repair boards. They replace them. That's why they quote high or say it's not repairable. Board-level repair is a different approach, so a second opinion is worth it.
How long does it take?
It depends on the fault and parts availability. I'll give you a time estimate along with your quote.
